DRY MECHANICAL CLADDING


This is a method of stone fixing.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of dry (or mechanical) cladding over wet cladding for stone facades in buildings?

Some of the benefits are :

a. The dry cladding method is safe and chances of stone falling down at a later date is remote.

b. Method allow for expansion and contraction of stone in extreme weather conditions.

c. The dry cladding method creates a gap of around 30 to 45 mm in between back wall and stone lining, providing a layer of air cushion that acts as a thermal barrier.

d. The appearance of stone used in dry cladding work looks aesthetically pleasing. The stone fixed with mortar may change in color due to absorption of water from back mortar layer.
